21ST ANNUAL DAVID C. DRISKELL PRIZE GALA

    September 19, 2026

Established by the High Museum of Art in 2005, the David C. Driskell Prize in African American Art and Art History honors field-defining contributions by leading US-based African American artists and scholars.

Named for the late artist and historian David C. Driskell, the prize was the first of its kind in the nation and annually alternates between recognizing a practicing artist and an art historian.

The recipient is awarded $50,000 in unrestricted funds to support their ongoing research or artistic practice.

The annual Driskell Gala celebrates Driskell's enduring legacy and honors the year's prize recipient during one of the Museum's most anticipated evenings.

Bringing together patrons and supporters from across the city and beyond, the gala supports the High's commitment to African American art, with proceeds benefiting acquisition, exhibition, and education initiatives through the David C. Driskell African American Art Acquisition Restricted and Endowment Funds.
