The Grand Ballroom at the Waldorf Astoria has hosted every sitting president since Herbert Hoover, the earliest incarnations of the Met Gala, and more state dinners than any room in America outside the White House.
On August 27, it becomes something it has never been. A tennis court.
The inaugural Waldorf Astoria Ballroom Tennis Invitational installs a custom-built court beneath the ballroom's restored chandeliers for two exhibition matches. Tommy Paul and Ben Shelton take the men's singles. Leylah Fernandez and Maria Sakkari take the women's. Four hours, one room, and roughly the intimacy of watching a Grand Slam from inside the players' box.
Around the court: premium open bars pouring Moët & Chandon, Grand Slam-inspired chef stations, a raw bar sourced that morning from the Fulton Fish Market, and passed hors d'oeuvres running the length of the evening.
The dress code is Courtside Chic, which is the Waldorf's polite way of saying this is a party that happens to have a scoreboard.
The Package
The Perfect Match is the overnight, and the only way to arrive at the ballroom without having to leave it afterward.
Five percent of event proceeds benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, matched by the Hilton Global Foundation.
